Apple Crumble - The French Way

Apple crumble, the French way, by my friend Elvire

The ingredients you need and the procedure/method below:

To make an apple crumble, you will need:

For the dough:
100g of sugar
100g of flour
750g of butter
Vanilla sugar (not compulsory)

Fruits: 6 apples or any kind of fruits suitable for a crumble, for example, you can mix apples and pineapple.

First of all, we need to prepare the dough and then put it in the fridge. Put the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar (one satchet/7.5g) and melted butter in a bowl. Mix it with your hands until everything is well mixed. After mixing well, roll the mixture into a ball.

Put the dough in the fridge while you are preparing the fruits.

Wash, peel and chop into pieces the apples or any other suitable fruit you are using (avoid the use of mango). Apples and pineapples make good crumbles. Put small amount of butter (15 to 30mls) in a pan then add the chopped fruits to the pan to fry it a little bit. Add a bit of sugar (15ml to 30mls) to the pan while the fruits are cooking. Keep the fruits on the fire for roughly 5 to 8 minutes. The cooking will finish in the oven. Once the fruits are half cooked, transfer into an oven pan. Now take the dough out of the fridge.

Crumble the dough on the fruits. They should be crumbled in big chunks.

Put the crumble in the oven at 190 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until it turns golden brown.

The crumble will look like this.

You can let it cool down before you eat it or have it warm. It can be eaten alone or with vanilla ice cream.

Bon appétit :)
